Apple iOS Outreaches Android, Report Says

RESTON, Va. — A new report by comScore reveals that Apple’s iOS platform outreaches Android by 59 percent in the U.S.

The data, based on comScore’s MobiLens service, shows demographics and other characteristics of mobile devices such as the iPad and iPod Touch.

“This new data set enables us to not only understand the comprehensive ecosystem of mobile and connected media device users, but it also allows us insight into their detailed demographic and behavioral attributes,” said Mark Donovan, comScore senior vice president of mobile.

The research shows that Apple’s iOS platform has a combined reach of 37.9 million among all mobile phones, tablets and other media devices, outreaching Android’s platform, which has an installed user base of 23.8 million, by 59 percent.

Among the 37.9 million consumers with access to Apple’s iOS, 4 million (10.5 percent) accessed the platform using more than one device.

The installed base of iPhones slightly exceeded that of iPod Touches, both of which were approximately twice as high as the number of iPads. As a result, Apple's share of U.S. mobile subscribers is 16.2 percent, compared to Android at 10.2 percent, comScore found.
